Bunk In Program
Purpose:
To offer living quarters for college students at no cost in exchange for firefighting service to The Brockport Fire District and Strategic partnering Fire Districts & Fire Departments- Temporarily Referred to as the “Tactical Squad”
How the process works-
Each Tactical Squad Member has to spend 20 hours a week “On Call” total. A calendar is created for each member based around their college schedule.
- Each Member goes to specific HQ on the days they are scheduled to that department.
The Candidates- Qualifications and Rules:
Be at least 18 years of age
Must be fully compliant active NY State Firefighter or Firefighter-1 equivalent
Must have valid Drivers License
We must receive a letter from their current chief stating they can be mutual Aid and are in good standing at current department.
Rules and regulations created for living quarters- BFD Expectations
No drugs or alcohol on premises- Zero tolerance policy
Physical and background check will be completed by BFD (Or Home Dept & Copied to BFD)
Submit grade each semester 2.5 GPA – Minimum of 9 credit hours per semester
In-house orientation at all participating Departments / training (Bunk-in Boot Camp)
20 hours a week service mandatory but encouraged to take calls above that
For the 20 hour In Service weekly, the Firefighter will be at a specific HQ, not a bunk house
Interview with Supervisors in charge of program.
